#Club Highlights
Shomak
Every session at MRR is a highlight and so it's really hard to choose. One highlight would be celebrating after the October Half Marathon in Manchester.
Maddy
Maddy ran the Rome Marathon in March 2025 and smashed her PB by over 30 minutes, raising over £700 for the Stroke Association. This was her victory lap from surviving a stroke 5 years' ago.
Gemma Moore
One of the biggest highlights for me was meeting Louise back in January. She set herself the goal of running the May 10k with her work and jumped right in. I had the chance to help and run 3k with her every week for about 10 weeks. Watching her grow more confident week after week was honestly so rewarding. She’d show up a little stronger each time and her excitement after a run—especially when she knew she’d done better than the week before—was contagious. I loved seeing her go on to join the 5k group. And now she still will find me after each run just to share how she got on. It’s been amazing to be part of her journey.
John Goacher

- Big turnout for the Santa Run despite it being more like a swim down the canal paths in very wet weather
- All the race completions and massive achievements, from 10ks to halfs to the marathon
- Insane runs by MRR at the 24hr run, huge fundraising, excellent organising by Tom and Co, and unknowingly photo bombing Andy Burnham
- Good vibes on the Metrolink Pub Crawl, led by Greg

- And the friendly, supportive community that brings new highlights each week

Questions and Requests
Questions
Shomak - I was wondering why the Trail Captain has no voting rights in the Core Committee. I understand it is being considered as a subsidiary just like the SLR, XC, and parkrun group, but by its very nature, Trail Division is fundamentally different from the other groups with its own races, events etc.Answer: When the committee was deciding on the new structure a vote was held on whether Trail Division Captain was a Core or Support role, with the result being a support role. An argument can be made for each of the positions above to have voting rights, however if these were all granted we'd end up in the same situation as the previous year with over 15 individuals having votes, which leads to inefficient and effective meetings/governance. The committee wanted to prioritise reducing voting rights, and this meant hard decisions had to be made on who had them.
RequestsShomak - For members to make a clear distinction between MRR activities and other social/non-running activities. So it would be good to make sure that quiz teams, football teams, and other social activities that are not organised by MRR refrain from using "MRR" when booking tables or registering for events.Response: We actively encourage members to form friendships and meet-up for activities outside of the club. However, if the MRR name is used in any team name such as Pub Quiz's or Football teams, then those which are part of such team bear responsibilities for representing the club. If anything arises in these teams, then the club will respond if needed to protect its brand.

A TRIBUTE TO EMMA HORRELLEmma was a long-standing member of MRR who served on the committee for a number of years.Emma had a heart condition, but still challenged herself as much as she could. She ran to raise money for and awareness of cardiomyopathy, and was a passionate advocate for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). In the wake of Emma's passing, the club completed its fundraising for the defibrillator that is now installed at the back of The Wharf. In tribute to Emma, all profits raised from the Canal 10K will be donated to CRY.Last year's event raised over £900 for the charity.
